Yesterday on Veteran’s Day, we shared a blog post by Peter Buotte, veteran, art therapist, and sculptor, on his exhibit “Invisible Wounds,” now on display in the Texas State Capitol ground floor Rotunda in Austin from November 11 to November 18, 2019. We asked Peter to answer a few questions about this exhibit and his art process!

As an art therapist, I get to encounter the invisible consequences of war each day.  As an artist, this series intends to make visible the experience of today’s Wounded Warrior who was physically or mentally wounded in Iraq or Afghanistan from 2001 to the present.  In another act of courage, each service member has selected a gesture and posed as a sculpture.

Congratulations to the Nebraska Art Therapy Licensure Coalition for submitting their 65-page (184 including appendices!) questionnaire to initiate the sunrise review (407 Credentialing Review) by the Department of Health and Human Services to determine the need to regulate art therapy in Nebraska!

Art Therapy Programs in Illinois and Virginia Receive Accreditation

Congratulations to the art therapy graduate programs at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE)! On September 20th, the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) approved the EVMS Master of Science in Art Therapy and Counseling and the SIUE Master of Arts in Art Therapy Counseling programs for initial accreditation.
