MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES

As an AATA member, you will support the critical advocacy and policy work of our organization while gaining access to the research, tools, and connections you need to succeed in the field. AATA offers a variety of membership categories, one of which will be perfect for you!

PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIPS

New Professional: A discounted Professional membership available to individuals who have completed graduate level training in art therapy within the last twelve (12) months. New Professional memberships are available for one year. At the end of the year-term, New Professionals can join AATA as a Professional or Credentialed Professional. Applicants for New Professional Membership must provide proof of their graduate degree with their application.

Professional: Individuals who have completed graduate level training in art therapy are eligible for a Professional membership. Professional members are eligible to vote, hold office, serve on committees, receive all official Association publications, and all other rights and benefits provided by the Association. Applicants for Professional membership must provide proof of their graduate degree with their application.

Credentialed Professional: Available to individuals who maintain current registration (ATR) and/or certification (ATR-BC) through the Art Therapy Credentials Board, Inc. (ATCB). Credentialed Professional members are eligible to vote, hold office, serve on committees, receive all official Association publications, and all other rights and benefits provided by the Association.

Retired Professional: A discounted Professional membership for individuals who have reached the age of 65, or who are eligible to retire with full benefits under the current Social Security regulations, and are officially retired from their primary professional activities. Retired Members are eligible to vote, hold office, serve on committees, receive all official Association publications, and all other rights and benefits provided by the Association.

STUDENT MEMBERSHIPS

Student: Individuals currently enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs of higher learning and interested in art therapy are eligible for a student membership. Student members receive online access to all AATA resource, including Art Therapy: Journal of the American Art Therapy Association, and are eligible to serve on committees. Applicants for Student membership must provide a copy of their student ID.

Student PLUS: An enhanced Student membership that includes one year of Student Professional Liability Insurance and a printed copy of Art Therapy: Journal of the American Art Therapy Association. Applicants for Student membership must provide a copy of their student ID.

INTERNATIONAL MEMBERSHIPS

International Student: Individuals currently enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs of higher learning outside the U.S. and interested in art therapy are eligible for an international student membership. International members receive online access to all AATA resource, including Art Therapy: Journal of the American Art Therapy Association. Applicants for Student membership must provide a copy of their student ID.

International Professional: Individuals living outside of the United States working in the field of art therapy or interested in art therapy and wish to support AATA’s purposes and objectives are eligible to join as International Professionals. International members receive online access to all AATA resource, including Art Therapy: Journal of the American Art Therapy Association.

OTHER MEMBERSHIPS

Associate: A Professional membership available to individuals who are interested in the field of art therapy but have not completed graduate-level training and are not practicing art therapists. Associate members are not eligible to vote or hold office.

Affiliate: An organizational membership available to institutions that wish to support the goals and objectives of the Association. Individual Designees of an Affiliate become either Associate or Professional members, depending on their qualifications.
