In order to foster increased mutual understanding, create open dialogue, and develop strategies for collaboration, the Boards of the National Organization for Arts in Health (NOAH) and the National Coalition of Creative Arts Therapies Associations, Inc. (NCCATA) held a joint meeting on the 23rd of February in Cleveland, Ohio, hosted by The Music Settlement.

On March 6, 2019 leading addiction and mental health experts convened on Capitol Hill to urge lawmakers to make immediate and strategic investments in the substance use disorder (SUD) workforce during a Congressional briefing titled, “Equipping the Frontline of a Crisis: How Congress Can Empower the Addiction Workforce to Save Lives.”
Connecticut Art Therapy Licensure Bill Recommended to the General Assembly

On March 1st the Joint Committee on Public Health voted unanimously, “Joint Favorable” on HB 5444, An Act Requiring Licensure of Art Therapists – meaning they recommend the bill to both chambers of the General Assembly.
Creative Forces Veteran Testifies on behalf of the AATA before U.S. House Interior Appropriations Subcommittee

On Tuesday February 26, 2019 Christopher Stowe Master Gunnery Sergeant, USMC (ret.) testified on behalf of the AATA alongside Americans for the Arts President and CEO Robert L. Lynch before the House Interior Appropriations Subcommittee. They urged the subcommittee to fund the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) at $167.5 for FY 2020, a $12.5 million increase from FY 2019.

Update on Volume 35 of AATA Journal & 3 Month’s Free Access to Journal of Creativity in Mental Health

Due to technical difficulties with our publisher’s typesetter, Volume 35(3) and Volume 35(4) were delayed at the end of last year and beginning of this year. The journals are on their way, and we anticipate that these technical issues have been resolved so that the publication schedule for the 2019 issues will proceed as expected. Currently, articles from Volume 35(3) can be accessed online.
