In Memoriam: Dr. Mildred Lachman-Chapin

AATA mourns the passing of Mildred (Millie) Lachin-Chapman MEd, ATR, HLM who died on August 26, 2019 at the age of 97. Millie was an educator, clinician, internationally exhibited painter, author, and was involved with the AATA since its founding in 1969.

In Tribute to Gladys Agell

The art therapy community lost a champion when Gladys Agell, PhD, ATR-BC, HLM passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2019. Dr. Agell was the AATA’s 9th President (1983-1985) and was awarded Honorary Life Membership in 1986 in recognition for her outstanding and pioneering contributions to the Association and to the profession as a clinician, educator, researcher, and editor.

In Memoriam: Donald Seiden

We are saddened to announce the passing of Don Seiden, ATR on August 8, 2019. An artist, educator, and art therapy pioneer, Don had tremendous impact on the field of art therapy. He established the art therapy program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) and served as the first president of the Illinois Art Therapy Association.

The AATA Conference Committee has been working with the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Task Force of the AATA Board of Directors to ensure that at this year’s 50th Annual Conference we provide ample learning opportunities for attendees to expand their knowledge in this important area for our profession.
