September 17, 2024 | By the AATA Nominations Committee
The Call for Nominations is officially open for five positions on AATA’s Board of Directors and on Nominations Committee Member!
Would you (or someone you know) bring valuable experience, unique perspective, and creative thinking to the AATA Board of Directors?
The Nominations Committee is looking for broad representation of AATA’s membership and the art therapy community to help propel the association and profession forward.
As art therapy gains recognition, our member-leaders are vital in charting a course toward a more sustainable, inclusive, and welcoming organization and community.
In addition, the opportunity to join the Nominations Committee will enable you to encourage others to serve. The Committee is tasked with creating a slate of candidates willing to run for elected positions in our association. The workload is structured around the nominations timeline (and the bulk of the committee work occurs in the Spring and Summer.)
As Ori Cruz, MPS, LCAT, explained about what it means to serve as an AATA Director and Nominations Committee member:
“It is a way to give back, help guide the future of our profession and help it thrive.”
It’s also an opportunity to develop relationships with other art therapists and leaders within our community—and elevate your own expertise and career. Learn more about the Director, Treasurer, and Nominations Committee roles and responsibilities in this document.
What’s the Nominations Process?
The Nominations Committee is accepting nominations for AATA members to serve two-year terms (2025-2026) for four Board Directors, one Treasurer, and one Nominations Committee Member. To nominate yourself or a qualified candidate, please submit a nomination form for Director here, Treasurer here, and Nominations Committee here by October 16. The form is powered by Slayte but will use your MyAATA credentials to log you in. (If you’ve used the system before, it may recognize you and auto-complete your contact information.)
To complete a nomination, you must submit a 200-word statement about why you want to join the AATA Board or Nominations Committee (or why the person you are nominating is qualified to join). If you are nominating yourself, you will also be prompted to upload your CV.
Once the Nominating Committee has reviewed all nomination forms, the 2024 elections slate will be created based on the most qualified candidates. Confirmed candidates will then have 3 weeks to provide the Committee with written responses to the 2024 candidate questions. These responses will be shared as part of the ballot when elections open in November 2024. Voting will be open to all professional members based in the United States and internationally, including Professional, New, HLM, and Retired Members. Master’s and Doctoral Art Therapy Student Members are able to vote, per a 2022 bylaws change.
Please contact us at nominations@arttherapy.org if you need assistance with the nominations process or contact Becky Corey at rcorey@arttherapy.org if you are having any problem with Slayte.
