Nov. 1, 2023 | By LaToya Pegram (Kinard) MAC, MAAT, LPC, LPAT, ATR-BC Multicultural Committee Chair
I am honored to serve as chair of the Multicultural Committee of the American Art Therapy Association. AATA is committed to diversity and cross-cultural inclusiveness in its membership and in the development and provision of art therapy to the public. The AATA Multicultural Committee plays a pivotal role in providing information, networking, and mentoring for all art therapists to develop multicultural competence and to increase diversity within the Association. With your help we will achieve more in 2024!
AATA’s AATA2023 Multicultural Quilt Project
To all the new Multicultural Committee members and to returning members, thank you for stopping by the MCC table at the AATA2023 Conference to make your presence known.
The Multicultural Committee’s Quilt Project is an annual event hosted at the AATA Art Therapy Conference. Participants select muslin pieces and use their artistic expression to design quilt pieces that “embrace diversity piece-by-piece.” After each piece is collected, it is later stitched together to make the final quilt.

Participate in the Quilt Auction!
The Multicultural Committee is hosting an auction for the quilt completed at the AATA2023 conference. The proceeds support the Pearlie Roberson Scholarship Award Fund and/or other Multicultural Committee endeavors. Established in 2000, the scholarship supports efforts to “explore, express, and connect” to enhance the multicultural aspects of the therapeutic experience.
If you would like to place a bid for your chance to purchase the 2023 quilt, click here or share the following QR code. Auction closes in December, 2023.
