Black History Continues – The Future of the Field

Hosted by Facilitator Louvenia Jackson Ph.D., LMFT, ATR-BC, and Panelists Yemisi Ola-Afolayan, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville; Jasmine Smith, Emporia State University; Cassandra Jefferson, Drexel University; and Amber Bliss, Loyola Marymount University.

This panel discussion of black art therapy students aims to spotlight Black art therapists who have helped found and shape the art therapy field. They provide insight to better understand the experiences of the next generation of Black art therapists in order to create a more inclusive and welcoming profession and association. Currently, only 3.5% of AATA members identify as Black or African American. This learning event helps us all—as colleagues, educators, and practitioners—uphold principles of cultural humility and be better advocates in support of diversity and inclusion.
