The American Art Therapy Association has opened the call for nominations for the Nancy Schoebel Distinguished Legislative Award. Nancy Schoebel was an inspiring art therapist and a vigorous advocate of art therapy at the local and national levels who made enduring contributions to the field through her advocacy work. Among these were efforts to have art therapy included in Public Law 94-142 (leading to art therapy services in schools), organizing legislative action with the National Coalition of Creative Arts Therapies Association (NCCATA), serving on the AATA Board of Directors for two terms, serving as Chair of the Governmental Affairs Committee (GAC),and serving as the President of the Potomac Art Therapy Association. Her persistence and care resulted in the elevation of art therapy and increased professional recognition.

The AATA is committed to bolstering the profession of art therapy through advocacy work. We are grateful for the members across the country who have continued Nancy’s efforts in the pursuit of licensure, title protection, and overall advocacy work. These efforts deserve recognition, so please consider nominating colleagues who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in legislative and advocacy efforts. Let us celebrate Nancy’s diligence by recognizing colleagues who share her passion and dedication to art therapy advocacy.

The deadline for nominations is June 15, 2021. Please learn more about the selection criteria and nominate your colleague directly on MyAATA.
