Phoebe Whisnant, MA, ATR provides individual and group art therapy sessions at several organizations in Atlanta serving a variety of clients, including: adults with mental illness, veterans with PTSD, and individuals recovering from spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and strokes.  She stays engaged in the art therapy community through the annual conference, chapter programming, and online throughout the year.  “I love receiving Art Therapy Today in my inbox each week,” says Whisnant.  “I’m inspired by hearing about the innovative and meaningful work that other art therapists are doing in their communities. These weekly updates, in addition to the art therapy community forum, really help me feel connected.”

Whisnant earned her MA from Adler University and now provides clinical training and supervision to graduate art therapy interns.  Additionally, she is a trained SoulCollage® Facilitator and recently completed a graduate certificate program in instructional design.  For the future of art therapy, Whisnant hopes to see an increase in job opportunities and continued recognition and title protection through state licensure across the country.

“Untitled” by Phoebe Whisnant. Watercolor. December 2018.

Artist’s statement: “In recent years I’ve gravitated towards watercolor painting as a mindful self-care practice. I find that focusing on the way the colors mix together and flow across the paper keeps me grounded in the present moment. I enjoy letting go of expectations and seeing what unfolds.”
