Ann Marie Hines MA, ATR-BC, LPC, runs Heal with Creativity, a private practice in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and works with children who have Autism, developmental and learning disabilities, and behavioral issues. She recently rejoined the AATA community and reflects, “I like that AATA is doing more in making members feel welcome and a part of the larger art therapy community. It feels good to be a part of something and have a support system.” Having benefited from networking and learning opportunities at AATA’s conferences, she says, “I felt it important to be a part of the community now that I’m in private practice and looking to connect with art therapists here in Pittsburgh.”
Ms. Hines earned her master’s in art therapy from Seton Hill University and has 12 years’ experience in the field. She has worked in community, educational, outpatient, and inpatient mental health settings, and her practice-specialties include anxiety, oppositional behavior, reactive attachment, and trauma in children, adolescents, and adults.
“I think we still struggle with how other professionals as well as consumers view art therapy,” Hines says. “I hope that we can continue to grow our profession, educate the public on the benefits of art therapy, and gain recognition from other health care professionals.”
