Amy Maricle, ATR-BC, LMHC, is the founder of Mindful Art Studio. As an art therapist, she worked in private practice, in-home, and residential settings. Now her career has shifted, and she works as a teacher, artist, and writer. Her writing and art have been featured in many online and print publications including The New York Times The Washington Post, Psych Central, and Art Journaling Magazine.
Maricle reflects on the connection between her work as an art therapist and her current career path: “In my work as an artist and teacher now through Mindful Art Studio, my training as an art therapist informs the way I teach art. I focus on process and helping people learn to play again through art. There are so many opportunities for mindful presence in making art and for dipping into our beautiful inner landscapes, and these can be incredibly healing experiences.”
For the future of the profession, Maricle “would love to see art therapy be far more common, well known, and accessible. Insurance reimbursement and better salaries would go a long way towards this goal.”
