Meet Art Therapy Graduate Student Stella Pallasch. She earned a BA in Studio Art from University of Mary Washington and is currently working on a masters in Art Therapy at Notre Dame of Maryland University.
As an art therapy, what excites you most about your career journey right now?
I’m currently interning at a forensic hospital and I love it. I love helping people and creating a safe space where they can explore art.
When I started working with forensic patients at my internship it solidified that this field and this population is for me. Although it can be hard working in a broken system the patients make it worth it. Watching them create and express their emotions is so rewarding and i’m honored to help them do that.
Tell us about your average day as an art therapy student.
I am currently interning in a forensic hospital so a normal day is spending 5-6 hours there running groups for my patient and then going to school in the evenings.
If you were talking to a potential client about why art therapy is unique (or why it’s effective) what would you say?
I would tell them that it’s a different way to express your emotions when sometimes words aren’t enough we can make art instead.

It’s been a long time coming
Stoneware. 2024.
What are your hopes for the profession?
To be more diverse and to continue to grow. I’d love for there to be a license in North Carolina and a school with an art therapy program.
