ART THERAPY ETHICS
Beginning in 2023, all Board-Certified Art Therapists (ATR-BCs) are required to complete six continuing education credits in ethics as part of their 100 required CE credits. Take a look at AATA’s recent Ethics Continuing Education courses.
2023 Ethics Series
The 2023 series featured Ethics Committee Co-Chairs Deborah Fung, LCAT, and Jen Waters, ATR, LMHC, LPCC.
Art Therapy Ethics: Positive Ethics
Positive Ethics is a perspective that encourages therapists to see overarching ethical principles as integrated with their personal values, as opposed to efforts focused on avoiding punishment for violating rules and regulations. For example, in many of our work sites, many policies and decisions are motivated by a self-protective instinct to avoid lawsuits and limit liability. While this is important, it lulls us into simply complying with a basic ethically adequate practice.
Presenter: Deborah Fung, LCAT
Art Therapy Ethics: Social Media & Ethics for Art Therapists
Social media may be used as a tool for art therapists to connect with other professionals, market themselves, and spread awareness about art therapy leading to increased public exposure and psychoeducation about the field. This session explores the ethical issues surrounding the topic of social media for art therapists, including privacy concerns for clients and therapists, potential boundary issues, and strategies to approach these topics in clinical practice.
Presenter: Jen Waters, ATR, LMHC, LPCC
