October 2024

Each September 15 to October 15, our nation recognizes National Hispanic American Heritage Month to pay tribute to the generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our nation and society.

This Hispanic Heritage Month, we are sharing the art created by five inspiring Latina/o/xs art therapists and profiling the work they do in support of their clients and communities they serve. Click on each AATA Member’s image to read their full Feature Member profile.

You can also watch AATA’s Hispanic Heritage Month Continuing Education session, Mexican Huipil-Making and Photoembroidery to Find Connection: Integrating Textiles, Photo and Embroidery in Clinical Practice on AATA’s Online Learning Academy.

Art therapists are credentialed mental health professionals. They are trained in a broad range of psychological theory and ways to use art media and creative processes to help people cope with mental health challenges. Art therapists hold Masters–level or higher degrees. Look for a therapist with the credentials ATR (art therapist registered) or ATR–BC (board–certified art therapist registered).
