With the help of AATA’s all-volunteer Professional Affairs Committee, we’ve created a comprehensive resource for our members addressing licensure, certification, scope of practice, and more. Licensure and Certification Guide can be accessed through the MyAATA Advocacy and Public Policy page within the Main folder of the Advocacy Resource Library.
The patchwork of art therapy licensure across the country can be daunting to understand. We hope this guide will help our members understand the importance of licensure and why it’s so important to advocate for the art therapy profession! It also answers questions such as:
1. What are licenses, certifications, and certificate programs?
2. What is a credential?
3. What does it mean for me if my state has licensure?
4. What does it mean for me if my state doesn’t have licensure?
5. What does it mean if my state doesn’t have licensure, but has title protection?
6. Why is it important for art therapists to advocate for licensure?
7. Where can I find my state’s Licensing Board?
