As art therapists prepare for the upcoming ATCB renewal deadline, we wanted to answer some questions that we received from AATA members about their continuing education options.

Is AATA the best place to get continuing education?

We think so! AATA’s Online Learning Academy has a wide range of 290 self-study courses from the trailblazers and lead researchers in the field. Plus, AATA members get discounts!

Our newest offerings include:

  • A three-part Art Therapy Ethics CEU Series, featuring AATA Ethics Committee co-chairs Deborah Fung, LCAT, ATR-BC and Jennifer Waters, MA, ATR, LPCC, LMHC. (These virtual, live sessions will be held May 5, 6, and 15.)
  • The three-part Art Therapy Supervision CEU Series, led by AATA Past President Margaret Carlock Russo, EdD, LCAT, ATR-BC, ATCS, and Nicole Randick, EdD, ATR-BC, REAT, LPC, NCC, now available On Demand.
  • A panel to honor AAPI Heritage Month, Asian/American Art Therapists: Embodying the Contexts, facilitated by AATA Board Member Miki Nishida Goerdt, LCSW, LCSW-C, ATR-BC, and featuring Jayashree George, DA, ATR-BC, LMFT, SEP; Tsz Yan (Winnie) Wong, MAATC, ATR; and Joyce Yip Green, PhD, LMFT, ATR-BC. This panel will be held May 20.

What discounts does AATA offer?

Members get a discount on all course offerings on AATA’s Online Learning Academy. That means discounts on all of our 290 courses in Ethics, Neuroscience, Trauma, and more! AATA’s 2022 Virtual Conference Sessions just opened last month for self-study and are now available for purchase at PRE-PANDEMIC PRICING ($20 per CEU)!

Is the “Online Learning Academy” new? (What about ICE?)

AATA’s Online Learning Academy is the same program as the former AATA Institute for Continuing Education in Art Therapy – we just changed the name for clarification! Based on feedback from our members, we have also made improvements to the search functionality. Take a look!

Some courses are live, but I can’t attend virtually. Are they available On Demand?

Yes, all of our live CEU events are recorded via Zoom, and will be available for On-Demand access for 30 days following the live event. You still will be able to receive the same number of CEUs for completing the On-Demand version of the course.

What about other professional development? For example, implicit bias training or learning about the history of our profession?

Check out On the DEI Journey with Cultural Humility in the Art Therapy Profession, led by Louvenia Jackson, PhD, MFT, ATR-BC, and Tamela Blalock, MBA, CAE, CMP, DES. This session is designed to serve as an introductory journey into diversity, equity, and inclusion addressing US structural foundations and historical framework. This learning opportunity is FREE to all AATA members!

You can also watch Black History Continues – The Future of the Field, which features a panel of Black art therapy students presenting on Black visionary architect art therapists who have inspired them.

Can students take the CEU courses — even though we don’t need CE credit?

Yes! We always encourage students to join the conversation and make connections, and the live sessions are a great way to do that! PLUS, student members of AATA can access any of our 2023 CEU events for free! For example, check out Sankofa: A Vision of Black Healing and Liberation Through Afrofuturistic Art, or our upcoming sessions on Ethics and Asian/American Art Therapists.

One more thing…

When you take a CEU course with AATA, you’re also supporting the growth of our Association! The revenue we generate from registration fees goes directly to supporting AATA’s work advocating for licensure, raising awareness about our profession, and supporting our members.

Thank you for letting us be a part of your professional development journey! As always, please reach out to us at membership@arttherapy.org with additional questions!
