Join AATA on February 25th at 12 – 1:30 pm ET for Black History Continues – The Future of the Field: a live, virtual session celebrating Black History Month. Louvenia Jackson, Ph.D., LMFT, ATR-BC and a panel of black art therapy students will present about black visionary architect art therapists who have inspired them.

Afterwards, Dr. Jackson will facilitate a discussion about the future of the field, and the experiences of black art therapy students. The session will then conclude with personal art sharing from the panelists, and an invitation for attendees to contribute their own art to a Padlet virtual bulletin board.

Through this conversational event, we aim to spotlight Black art therapists who have helped found and shape the art therapy field. We hope to provide insight to better understand the experiences of the next generation of Black art therapists so that we can be a more inclusive and welcoming profession and association. Currently, only 3.5% of AATA members identify as Black or African American. This event will help us all—as colleagues, educators, and practitioners—uphold principles of cultural humility and be better advocates in support of diversity and inclusion.
