The AATA conference program is made possible by hundreds of art therapists, educators, and graduate students who are willing to join us as conference presenters—to share their expertise or begin a discussion that advances our profession. This Call for Proposals is an open invitation from conference organizers to invite you to submit session presentations that would be relevant and of interest to the art therapy community. You don’t have to be a member of the American Art Therapy Association (AATA) to submit a proposal or present at the Annual Conference.
We hope that you will consider submitting a proposal sharing your knowledge, experience, and expertise. The Conference Program Committee strives to obtain proposals that will provide a variety of topics, program tracks, and presenters to create a balanced program.

Some basic requirements for submitting include:
- At least one of the presenters in each session must have the minimum of a master’s degree. Graduate students are encouraged to submit proposals, but please ensure that a co-presenter with a master’s degree participates in your session. A master’s degree is not required for poster sessions.
- Each session can have a maximum of 4 presenters. Panels can have a maximum of 5 presenters.
- Presenters are only permitted 3 submissions, including being identified as a co-author.
- Each proposal is reviewed anonymously by three reviewers. Proposal submitters’ names and bios are not visible to the reviewers. All proposal submitters are instructed to remove their names from the abstracts and other materials submitted except for Advanced Practice, Workshop and Video Session proposals. This means that most of the proposal reviews are conducted blindly.
- By submitting a proposal, you are agreeing to present in person in San Diego, CA, if your proposal is accepted.
