SCHOLARSHIPS

Each year, the American Art Therapy Association honors individuals through an awards program that recognizes Students and Professional level members. We offer research grants and student scholarships, as well as individual honors to members that have outstanding contributions of lasting importance to the art therapy community.

The scholarship winners are celebrated each year at AATA’s annual in-person conference as well as during a virtual All-Member Meeting.

LIST OF SCHOLARSHIPS

Pearlie Roberson Multicultural Award

The award provides financial support for a project, undertaken by a student or professional member of the American Art Therapy Association, which targets multicultural aspects and capacities of art therapy. The award is based on the merit of the project proposal, not financial need. It is specifically designed to advance the Association’s research mission addressing cross-cultural/multicultural approaches to art therapy assessment and practice. For more details, see MyAATA.

New Professional Scholarship Award

Amount: Full conference registration per awardee + $250 stipend (provided if the recipient is attending conference in person)

The American Art Therapy Association and its generous donors provide an opportunity for New Professionals, who are also new attendees to conference, to attend our National Annual Conference. AATA aims to encourage the growth of the profession by helping our newest professionals access information and resources for networking and to support the work that they do. Irene Rosner David Medical Art Therapy Scholarship

This scholarship focuses on understanding the role of the medical art therapist and is available to a student member of AATA who can demonstrate acceptance or enrollment in a graduate or doctoral art therapy program. Students receiving this award are strongly encouraged to attend the conference. For more details, see MyAATA.

Myra Levick Scholarship Fund

Available to an AATA student member with a current, or most recent, GPA of at least 3.00 who can demonstrate financial need and acceptance or enrollment in a graduate art therapy program. Students applying for this award are strongly encouraged to attend the conference. For more details, see MyAATA.

Laura Greenstone Memorial Scholarship

This award honors the memory of art therapist Laura Greenstone in her request for the establishment of a scholarship to support masters-level African-American and Afro-Caribbean art therapy students. Through the establishment of this scholarship, Laura hoped to address the legacy of racial violence in the United States by furthering a diversified art therapy profession and serving very diverse communities in inclusive ways. This scholarship is available to an AATA student member who can demonstrate acceptance or enrollment in a graduate art therapy program, identifies as being African-American and/or Afro-Caribbean, and can demonstrate support to under-served communities. The student application will be completed in alignment with the AATA Code of Ethics, Responsibility to the Profession, Section 10, in that the application is a truthful representation of self and identity. Student Scholarship to the AATA Annual Conference

Amount: Full conference registration per awardee + $250 stipend (provided if the recipient is attending conference in person)

Specifically designed to provide financial support to student members so they can attend the Annual In-Person or Virtual Conference, this fund is available to AATA student members who can demonstrate financial need, acceptance, and/or enrollment in an art therapy program, and prior involvement in art as healing events. Students awarded this scholarship are required to attend the conference. Students must identify their status as undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral candidate. For more details, see MyAATA.

Dr. Ellen G. Horovitz Spiritual Art Therapy Scholarship

The Dr. Ellen G. Horovitz Spiritual Art Therapy Scholarship is a research scholarship, available to an AATA student member or AATA member practitioner who demonstrates financial need and has a particular interest in the application of Spiritual Art Therapy and mind/body practices. This award is intended to underwrite projects and/or research envisioned to develop this specialization and interest in Spiritual Art Therapy and mind/body practice as it informs psychological processes surrounding one’s belief systems (e.g., the BATA- Belief Art Therapy Assessment) and its impact on diagnosis and well-being.
