February 7, 2019
The momentum of the 2019 legislative sessions continues to increase as legislation is introduced, public hearings are scheduled, and sunrise reviews are completed.
The latest:
- Connecticut HB 5444: On February 1st the Scope of Practice Review Committee on Art Therapists released their Report to the General Assembly, concluding: “Committee participants did not oppose the concept of licensure and additional regulation of clinical art therapists as licensure would give the Department of Public Health the authority to regulate and discipline art therapists.” Subsequently, the Joint Public Health Committee considered the bill proposed by Rep. Mitch Bolinsky (R) and voted to introduce it as a committee bill – this will likely give it higher priority and assure that it is considered this session! A public hearing has already been scheduled for February 11th.
- Nebraska LB 422: Sarah Howard (D) introduced the licensure bill on January 18th. She chairs the Health and Human Services Committee, which will consider the bill for the unicameral legislature. The Committee has scheduled a public hearing on February 14th.
- Tennessee HB 781/SB 55: Bob Ramsey (R) introduced the companion bill on February 5th.
- New Hampshire HB 546: The Executive Departments and Administration Committee held a public hearing on February 6th, and AATA members who testified report a positive hearing.
