Dear AATA Members and Art Therapy Community:

I am proud to share with you AATA’s 2021 Annual Impact Report, Resiliency, Growth, and Inclusivity: Focusing on the Future of Art Therapy. Last year was tumultuous and it certainly tested our resilience as individuals, professionals, and as an association. Despite all that, we accomplished a great deal together.

In 2021, AATA developed a new Strategic Plan to lead us forward, along with our new mission statement, to advance art therapy as a regulated mental health profession and build a community that supports art therapists throughout their
careers.
In addition to addressing the immediate needs of our members, we joined federal efforts to support mental health and advanced state art therapy licensure efforts across the country—including a huge licensure victory in Tennessee! Internally, we worked to prioritize Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) within our association and our art therapy community. And our 2021 virtual conference hosted nearly a thousand attendees!

Please take a few minutes to read our Annual Impact Report, and in particular, the members and artwork we have highlighted. They truly tell the story of who we are as a community, and what we do as a profession.

Thank you for being a part of AATA, and I look forward to working with you!

Sincerely,

Girija Kaimal, EdD, MA, ATR-BC
AATA President
