Important Updates:
From our Legislative Chair:
Mental Health Counselors are continuing to pursue the changes during this legislate session that will put counselors (Art Therapists that are licensed) on equal ground with psychologists and social workers. The mental health counselors organizations are behind this movement. Several bills before the legislature will include diagnostic abilities to be included in our license (LPC). It is still unclear whether this will indeed happen this legislative term. See their web site for further details: www.mmch.com. Art therapists continue to seek licensure in the state of Missouri as course requirements are changed by the board. The programs that are affected in this area are changing to meet the licensing requirement. However, other states programs will have to be looked at and approved by the committee on an individual basis. - Jane Seelig LPC, ATR,BC Legislative Liaison

Events:
Venus Envy will be celebrating it's 10th annual festival of women's creativity in St. Louis at the Mad Art Gallery. The date is March 7th, with the opening reception from 5:30 - 8:00 p.m at the Mad Art Gallery, 2727 S. 12th Street. The show will hang for one month after the event. MATA is participating by offering an open studio collage making activity using pre-cut circles and we'll ask participants to respond to their thoughts about Venus or the feminine by using collage materials. Volunteers are needed for two different 2-hour shifts and donated magazines/collage material is appreciated (please no trash). Please contact Brenda Elfgen if you are interested in volunteering or for more information on Venus Envy at breelfgen@gmail.com
